NIKEiD

i have quite a shoe problem. i think of shoes like accessories, they have to match what i'm wearing today. i don't like it when i'm out and suddenly i see someone wearing the exact same pair of footwear that i have on. i mean it's not difficult to bump into someone who has the same shoes, most of the shoes you can find in KL are quite generic and all but it doesn't feel right la, then people will start comparing who looks better in them and i don't like that. ever since i came to the UK i've been noticing people's feet (i mean their shoes la) and i was so hyped up and excited because the shoes here are not those you find back home. probably british people would say it's normal for them and this is their kind of 'generic' but i don't care, because i'm a foreigner :B

so i went a little crazy and bought [insert number you think appropriate] shoes and now there is no more space in my tiny little uni-accommodation-of-a-room. everything studded i see, i buy. will post pictures of my studded collection in another post because if i continue to blab about this we will never get to the main point of why i clicked on 'New Post' ever.

when i was still in KL, one of my friends in japan showed me a picture of her new shoes that had seven different shades of colours and the combination was something i had never seen before. she told me that certain shoe brand (starts with A, ends with DAS) lets you customise your own shoes and you can choose whatever colour and how you want the shoes to look subject to their availability of colours and patterns of course.  i was like wtf where did you get those?! i came to find out that i'll never get them anywhere in malaysia because they obviously didn't have that type of service there.

but now i'm in the UK! *commence evil laughter* london, one of the fashion capitals of the world. they confirm have this type of canggih service here. so i looked up online for the brand my friend bought her shoes. it was really quite appealing and i was so tempted to design my shoe already. the only downside was that the webpage on where you get to pick your colour and whatnot was super slow. i even tried opening the page at different locations with different internet connections (so semangat because i wanted them so badly) but still everytime i clicked on something it would take 10 minutes to load the next page. so i got really annoyed and sulked for about a week.

i couldn't give up obviously, i wanted a pair of shoes that were the only one of its kind and only i would have them. so i went to ask the god 'Google' and turns out Nike also has this thing called NIKEiD where they let you customize your own products! and my god the website is 100 times more efficient than the previous one!

it lets you customize the main exterior colour of the shoe, type of fabric or canvas for the shoe, the colour of the swoosh, backtab and lining, colour of shoelaces and even the eyelets where the shoelaces go through! i was thinking of having a pattern like the one in this picture but it was a tad bit too flashy for me and would be hard to 'accessorize' with most of my clothes :)

i ended up going for something more simple. they even have an option for you to have a zipper at the side instead of the usual slip ons, if you're hipster like that. haha i choose to have it without the zipper just so i could have the nike swoosh on both sides of the shoe.

very easy navigation and guides you along the customizing process so don't worry about all the 'shoe terms'.

this is part i love most! it's called NIKEiD for a reason, it lets you have your name or whatever word of your choice embroidered onto the heels of the shoes! you could always stick to having the word 'nike' on the heels but then what's the point of going through this process? just go buy a pair at the store la! i've seen people put things like the words 'kobe' and 'bryant' on either side but you know la, i'm very self-obssesed so i asked for my name to be on the back. it would've been cooler if they allowed hyphens in the names so JU-ERH would look nicer but i got over it, haha. so that's what my shoe looked like on the computer screen. i was abit skeptical about the whole thing because things always look nicer in pictures and i was afraid my shoes would come out looking not like the picture.

it takes 3 weeks for them to make the shoes and ship it to you, so i patiently waited for my new shoes to arrive in the mail. they kept to their word though, 3 weeks, exactly 21 days later it arrived :)

tadahhh! looks exactly like the picture! i was extremely pleased :)

every detail was exactly how i wanted it to be. even purple eyelets for the shoelaces, see!

now i is can have a pair of shoes that nobody else has! next time people ask me where i got my shoes from, i can proudly say i designed them myself with the help of the shoemakers at the factory where ever they may be :) it's something special to have in your shoe collection, especially if you're someone like me who has this crazy shoe obsession.

oh, i was a little dissappointed that the shoes were half a size too big for me. make sure you get your shoe size right before checking out! the price of the shoes vary according to the small details like the fabric or certain colours which may cost more than other colours. patterns also cost more than the solid colours. all in all i'm very happy with them and i would definitely reccomend this to anyone who would want a pair of their own! happy shopping! :)
